The Salt Lake Temple Utilizing Ascension as a Symbol

The symbology and architectural design of the Salt Lake Temple follows an ascending order from the foundation of the edifice upward to the spires; and from the flanking spires to the elevated center spires. This ascension is intended to draw the eyes toward heaven. This symbolizes the need for mankind to look to Heaven for guidance; and to watch for the signs of the return of Jesus Christ, which will be manifest in the sky.
Ascension also symbolizes the spiritual journey and progression of mankind from a fallen, mortal state to a redeemed and exalted state through Jesus Christ.
